Our History Since 1910

100+ Years of Proud Canadian Heritage

First opened in 1910, the Silver Grill Restaurant has been a historical foundational pillar for Fort Macleod as the oldest operating restaurant in Western Canada. Over 100+ years of proudly serving quality cuisines for our loyal patrons. In 2010, we were awarded the Alberta Historical Site distinction.

Since Fort Macleod's conception as a World War II airbase, the Silver Grill has proudly served patrons from all around the world. A unique story of the mirror bar inside the restaurant dates back to 1912. A man walked in and indicated with his pistol which bottle of liquor he desired. He discharged his pistol and shattered the mirror. To this day, the bullet is still lodged in the mirror. The frame and cabinetry of the mirror was first imported from the USA and was fabricated out of solid wood. The building continues to maintain the historical features of 1910 like the original tin plated ceiling, solid genuine hardwood floors, solid wood spindle arch signs and limestone exterior pillars.

The Silver Grill continues to proudly preserve this great Canadian history and is 100% owned and operated by Canadians. We look forward to defining the future ahead as the Premier Executive Restaurant of Fort Macleod and Southern Alberta.
